Practice

Care and support in advanced Parkinson's: A guide for general practice

This new course from Parkinson's UK provides learning for GPs on Care in Advanced Stage Parkinson's. It is available free online and can be covered in 30-45 minutes. It has a range of tools, resources and links to support practice.

Sharing your practice

The SPPC hosts a 'sharing current Scottish practice' blog as a platform for people to share examples of current Scottish palliative care practice that might be of interest to the palliative care community more widely. Building and sustaining compassionate communities event

We are pleased to be working with Faith in Older People to put on an event exploring the role of churches in supporting people with issues relating to the end of life. It will take place on Wednesday 27 November in Edinburgh. More information is available here: weblink.

Future of Primary Care

The SPPC has responded to the Scottish Parliament Health and Sport Committee consultation exploring the future of primary care in Scotland. The response can be accessed here: What should primary care look like for the next generation?

The Truacanta Project

In this month's Truacanta blog, shortlisted community Perth & Kinross tell us about their new partnership, and how they're working together to build their vision to be part of The Truacanta Project.

Annual Conference

175 people attended the SPPC Annual Conference 2019, which took place on 18th September 2019. It featured a range of plenary and breakout sessions, plus poster display and arts space. PowerPoint slides and poster displays from the conference will be available shortly.

Self Assurance Survey for social care providers

The Scottish Government understands that social care providers are already working on their contingency plans and resilience development steps to prepare for a possible EU Exit on October 31st 2019. The Scottish Government is requesting that social care providers complete this self assurance survey to help the Scottish Government better understand social care providers preparedness level in September 2019.

Scottish Antimicrobial Prescribing Group

The Scottish Antimicrobial Prescribing Group (SAPG) which is part of Healthcare Improvement Scotland, has established a working group to explore the use of antibiotics towards the end of life.

Paediatric End of Life Care Network (PELiCaN) Introductory Roadshows

A series of roadshows are taking place to introduce PELiCaN, the new national paediatric end of life care network. The roadshows are an opportunity to find out about the national network, engage with other interested stakeholders, get involved and have a voice:

  • North Roadshow: Station Hotel, Aberdeen 26 Nov 2019 10am -2pm
  • West Roadshow: the Corinthian Club, Glasgow, 4 Feb 2020 , 10am-2pm
  • East/Central Roadshow: STEP Stirling, 17 Mar 2020 10-2pm

New Palliative and end of life care website presence launched

The National End of Life Intelligence Network (England) has a new Palliative and end of life care website presence bringing together their profiles, data and intelligence, reports and resources.The new website has 4 sections:

  • Palliative and end of life care profiles.
  • Data and intelligence.
  • Data analysis reports.
  • Resources.

Dignity in Dying Report

Dignity in Dying Scotland has published The Inescapable Truth about dying, to which the Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care has published the following response: SPPC response to Dignity in Dying report. Dignity in Dying also released an accompanying campaign film which received criticism and has since been taken down.
