Good Life, Good Death, Good Grief - shaping strategy workshop

Friday 9 October, 10.30am - 12pm.

A workshop exploring the future of public health palliative care and compassionate communities approaches in Scotland.

Background

The Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care is currently gathering evidence, experience and ideas to help shape the future strategic direction of palliative and end of life care, serious illness, dying and bereavement in Scotland. As part of this, we are keen to consider public health palliative care and compassionate communities approaches.

Purpose of the workshop

We are inviting all in Scotland with an interest in the area of public health palliative care and compassionate communities to participate in an open interactive workshop via zoom.

Discussions at the workshop will be noted down and used to inform the drafting of a position paper, which we hope will identify key priorities, actions and responsibilities for improving people’s experiences of palliative and end of life care, death, dying and loss over the next 10 years.

Format of workshop

10.15am - Link open for joining

10.30am - Welcome and background

10.40am - Public Health Palliative Care in Scotland - looking back and looking forward.

Rebecca Patterson, Director of Good Life, Good Death, Good Grief.

11am - Small group discussions (4-5 people per group)

  • Question 1: In Scotland, what do you think are the next steps we need to take to create a society where everyone feels able to help when someone is dying or grieving? (25 min)
  • Question 2: Previous attempts have been made at recommending a strategic approach to public health palliative care in Scotland (via Grasping the Nettle and A Road Less Lonely). Has anything changed since then? How much of these previous documents would you keep, remove, change, add...? (25 min)
