You can talk to our trained staff and get information and support via our online chat service.

Online Chat is available Monday to Friday 8am-6pm and Saturday 11am-5pm.

If the team are busy helping other people and you can't get through straight away, please do try again in a few minutes. When you click on the Online Chat icon, a new window will open with a welcome message. It will take a moment to connect you with a Support Line officer.

When the officer is online, you'll see a message saying: 'How can I help you today?' You can then start typing any questions or things you'd like to chat about.

  • You'll be able to see when the Support Line officer is typing because the phrase 'The adviser is typing' will be displayed in the chat window. Their text will be displayed once they have finished typing.

When it appears, you can then type in your response. Once you've written your message, you'll need to press enter for the Support Line officer to be able to see what you've written.

When you have finished your chat session, you'll get a message from the Support Line officer to confirm that the session has ended. Please note that this service is currently only available in English.

If you would like to speak to us in another language our Support telephone line is available in over 200 languages.

  • Sometimes it can take a little while for the Support Line officers to type back their message to you, so please don't worry if you don't get an immediate response. You'll also need to keep the window open while they are typing otherwise you may miss out on their response.

  • At Marie Curie "a child" is defined as anyone under 18 years of age. The online chat service we provide is not provided specifically for children, but if you need help, we won't turn you away if you are under 18.

If you are a child or young person who wants to use the online chat service, you must ask the adult responsible for your care for permission first.

If we need to take personal details such as a telephone number, email address or postal address (for example to direct you to a local service, or to send you a leaflet) and you're under 13, we'll need permission from your legal guardian first, so we'll ask you to provide proof you have this.

The online chat service we provide is not a counselling service, so if you're a child who's recently lost someone close, please get in touch with one of the charities listed here who can offer specialist support:

All online chat conversations with our Support Line officers are completely confidential, unless there is a risk of serious harm to you or others, and in some other specific circumstances outlined in our confidentiality statement.
