Remembering 25 years of friends now gone
Sauchie Community Group, now in it’s 25th year, has always been run by supporters and volunteers. Many of our members have died over the years, and we are organising this ‘Absent Friends’ event to remember those friends who we’ve lost over the last quarter of a century.
Join us on for a slideshow down memory lane, sharing of stories and memories, food and music. We encourage current members and former members, their family and their friends to join in our celebration to remember fondly those who had such an impact on our lives and our community.

Widow Me This
Being widowed is hard. Being widowed in your mid twenties isn't much easier. Join Isla Maclean on her first full length stand up show as she explores life, death and happily never after.

Storytelling Workshop
The supper approach is a modern take on a timeless concept, getting together over food to remember people who have died. The suppers are an excuse to remember, to tell stories, to celebrate and to reminisce about people who have died, because people live on in the memories and stories we share.
In partnership with the Scottish International Storytelling Festival, this participative workshop will explore the To Absent Friends Supper as a means of recreating an evocative opportunity for storytelling and remembrance in the Scottish tradition.

Inverclyde street parties
Across Inverclyde, people will be celebrating and remembering people who have died.
Among the events being planned are street parties in Greenock, Gourock, Port Glasgow, Kilmacolm and Inverkip/Wemyss Bay/Skelmorlie.
At the street parties, people will decorate bunting with a message to or memory of a loved one, and then fly the bunting to decorate the parties.

Life, Death & Lilies
Place an illuminated lily in memory of a loved one as part of an exploration of death and bereavement.
1500 individual notes of remembrance will be displayed at an art installation in the form of a temporary memorial garden in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket, the King's Stables Road end. Members of the public will be able to pick up a lily at any of the pedestrian entrances to the Grassmarket. They will then be invited to walk to the memorial garden and install their flower.
The unusual tribute is being created as a practical translation of recent NHS Education Scotland-funded research into the training needs of health and care staff in issues relating to death and dying.
