West Lothian Specialist Palliative Care Service, Livingston

Marie Curie Cancer Care, NHS Lothian and Macmillan Cancer Support are working together to provide specialist palliative care services for patients with any advanced, progressive and incurable illness, and support for their families.

The West Lothian Palliative Care Service offers a range of services to provide patients and their carers with specialist support and advice – whether in St John’s Hospital, in their own home, in a community hospital or in a care home.

Any health or social care professional can refer patients with an advanced, progressive and incurable illness for assessment and advice on: uncontrolled pain or other symptoms, complex end of life care needs, complex physical, psychological, spiritual or family needs OR advance care planning, including place of care and death.

How we can help

The West Lothian Palliative Care Service is provided by teams of clinical nurse specialists based in St John’s Hospital. They are supported by a consultant in palliative medicine and a team of health and social care professionals including a senior social worker, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, pharmacist, chaplain, complementary therapists and Macmillan welfare benefits advisers.

We provide a range of services including: hospital palliative care team, community palliative care team, day services, outpatient appointments and support for carers.

Referrals can be made by any health or social care professional.
