Within the context of the Calman/Hine report and of the NHS priority for cancer services in Scotland, this paper focuses on the provision of palliative care for people with cancer. It was intended to be of use to those with responsibility for commissioning cancer services and for those providing such services in cancer centres, cancer units or primary care.  However, it recognises that many services are not and should not be restricted to cancer patients, and reiterates the SPA’s commitment to the  development of palliative care services for all who could benefit from them, not only those with malignant disease.
