This briefing paper was designed for those whose tasks include the assessment of need and the management of care for cancer patients. It outlines the prevalence and incidence of cancer with in NHS Board areas, and provides a list of some of the special characteristics of the needs of this client group. It also includes four short case studies showing the care of cancer patients in the community from different professional perspectives.
