Abstract

The Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) aims to improve the quality of health care for patients in Scotland by reducing variation in practice and outcome, through the development and dissemination of national clinical guidelines containing recommendations for effective practice based on current evidence.  SIGN has produced many guidelines that are relevant to palliative care, including:

·         67: colorectal cancer

·         80: management of lung cancer

·         84: breast cancer in women

·         75: epithelial ovarian cancer

·         93 – 97: heart failure

·         106: control of pain in adults with cancer (updates SIGN 44: control of pain in patients with cancer)
