New palliative care research forum

All palliative and end-of-life care researchers in Scotland are welcome to attend a meeting of the new Scottish Research Forum for Palliative and End of Life Care. The group will meet on Friday 6 May at St Columba’s Hospice, Edinburgh.

The Scottish Government's Strategic Framework for Action for Palliative and End of Life Care outlines 10 specific commitments related to improving palliative and end of life care in Scotland, including Commitment 5:

"We will strengthen and co-ordinate research and knowledge exchange across regions, institutions and disciplines by taking further action to support the establishment of a Scottish Research Forum for palliative and end of life care."

The framework specifies that a strategic approach needs to be taken to develop a sustainable and innovative national programme of research that directly informs clinical practice and policy. It is specified that the Research Forum “will provide a platform to share emerging examples of good practice and experience of what works, for whom and why, facilitating knowledge exchange, informing evidence-based decision making and driving quality improvement”.

All palliative and end-of-life care researchers in Scotland are welcome to attend the new Research Forum, which will meet on Friday 6 May at St Columba’s Hospice, Edinburgh. It will start at 10.30am and finish at 4pm with coffee from 10am and lunch at 12.30.

There will be an opportunity to hear about the rationale and great potential of this Forum from Tim Warren, the new Policy Lead at the Scottish Government. There will also be the opportunity to discuss the terms of reference of the group, and for participants to consider how their own research can contribute to the commitments set out within the Strategic Framework for Action. There will also be a presentation about a proposed scoping review of Scottish research, and the chance to meet research users from NHS Education Scotland.

If you would like to attend please inform Susan Thorburn directly at St. Columba’s Hospice with a copy of the email to Anne Finucane by 29th April.
