Death Awareness Week Scotland

9-15 May 2016

Every year in May, Good Life, Good Death, Good Grief holds an Awareness Week, providing individuals and organisations with an opportunity to promote the positives of living in a society where people can be open about dying, death and bereavement.

If ‘it takes a village to raise a child’, it also takes a village to support someone who is dying and their family. This year's Awareness Week celebrates everyone who has ever cared for someone who has died.

The daughters, sons, parents, partners, spouses, siblings, nieces and nephews. The care home staff, nurses, doctors, hospice staff and home care workers. The friends, neighbours and colleagues.

Whether it is looking after an aging parent, working as a nurse, or cooking a meal for a bereaved neighbour, every day, people help each other through the difficult times that can come with death, dying and bereavement. Awareness week this May is a chance to recognise the amazing things that ordinary people do every day to look after the people the care about.
