Boots, Macmillan Palliative Care and NHS Highland Partnership

  • Submitted by: Mary Scanlon, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 07 July 2015
  • Motion reference: S4M-13732

That the Parliament welcomes the progress of the Skye palliative care partnership, which involves Boots, Macmillan Palliative Care and NHS Highland Partnership; understands that it is a first of its kind in rural Scotland as it enables patients in Skye and Lochalsh to access specialist services of Macmillan Palliative Care rural pharmacists through the Boots store in Portree; considers the partnership an example of good practice by providing patients receiving medication in rural areas with vital assistance, advice and support tailored to their specific needs; notes the recent research from the University of Strathclyde suggesting that this innovative partnership has had a significant impact on patient care, and believes that it can serve as a model of patient care that should be explored in other rural areas throughout Scotland where appropriate.
